Blake Busch is a senior pursuing a major in marine science-biology and a minor in environmental science. He is from Rhode Island where he found a love for marine science. His interests are in coastal marine organisms and how they are affected by changes in abiotic factors. This past summer he worked on a grant in collaboration with the Rhode Island Department of Marine Fisheries and the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service to create sustainable oyster habitats and oyster reefs in sanctuary areas in Rhode Island waters.

Blake’s research here at UT focuses on determining the effects of extreme salinity on the expression of specific stress response genes in eastern oysters.
