Uncovering disordered proteins among copy number variants in Danio rerio

My name is Anthony Brando. I am originally from Brick, NJ. I graduated from the University of Tampa in 2019 with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. I am currently a 4th year student at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. I am set to graduate in May 2023 and will then go on my surgical residency at the University of Louisville.

During my time at UT, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work on my own research project with Dr. Dobrinski. We worked together from the fall of my junior and up until the end of my senior year. My project was titled “Uncovering disordered proteins among copy number variants in Danio rerio.” The project focused on going through a data set of copy number variants within the Danio rerio genome to attempt to uncover disordered proteins. I would then further search to see if the disordered proteins that exist within Danio rerio were present and also disordered within the human genome. If the proteins were disordered and present within the human genome the proteins were then evaluated to see if they posed any role in the development of cancers within humans. My work was entirely computer based using a number of online databases in order to carry out my research. I was fortunate to be able to present my research at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference in 2019 and the University of Tampa’s Research Symposium in 2018 and 2019.
