Assessing Trihalomethanes, the chlorination disinfection byproducts in water and its correlation to head and neck cancer in the Tampa Bay Area.

I am currently working as a Lead Clinical Specialist at a medical device company in Austin, TX. I attend surgeries with Neurologist and Neurosurgeons who specialize in movement disorders specifically involving Parkinson's Disease. My role as a Clinical Specialist is to assist both the Neurologist and Neurosurgeon with the device and ensure that the device is operating efficiently. The device is a systema and drive that uses a microelectrode to pick up on neurons firing, using this information the Neurologist and I can detect entry and exit of the three specific structures involved in Parkinsons Disease and best implant the electrode (lead) in the ideal location for patient benefits.

During my undergraduate at the University of Tampa I conducted research with Dr. Dobrinski assessing Trihalomethanes, the chlorination disinfection byproducts in water and its correlation to head and neck cancer in the Tampa Bay Area. Using GCMS, we analyzed the traces of the trihalomethanes of the water collection as well as GPS data to tag samples. My lab partner and I obtained 2nd place in the 2018 research symposium (CNHS Undergraduate Research Symposium).
